Decades (for MM)
2016

Decades for MM is a durational performance and drawing, beginning in the upstairs salon of the Arts Club Chicago and continuing through the Mies van der Rohe designed stairway, into the gallery space and to the building entrance. During the piece, I tie a thin blue thread to the grand piano in the salon, and walking backwards I slowly unfurl it, tying a knot with each step, and with each step reciting the prayer “Hail Mary” in a low voice. I continue the process, criss-crossing the stairway and reaching the first floor level where the audience stands, I slowly make my way through them. This concentrated and very quiet process carves a nearly invisible channel through the crowd, which became silent over the course of the hour-long work.
