Scene
2012

Scene is an installation consisting of 16 synchronous video images with 5.1 surround-sound. The images can be projected as a grid or configured with 16 separate monitors. It takes its cue from the acousmatic conventions of cinema, in which sound often structures the reading of the image by creating on- and off-screen acoustic space. In this case, however, the visual and architectural space are presented only as atomized views, and only when a sound emanates from any depicted sources. This audiocentric approach displaces yet coheres the image. The dialogue, spoken in ancient Greek, remains opaque, but appears on a 17th monitor or panel in translation as a single static page. Cinematography by Melika Bass, performed by Alessandra Lukinovich and Vincent Barras.
