Contrapasso Veneto
The series Contrapasso Veneto includes nine drawings, each 100cm x 22cm. The narrow horizontal format is inspired by a pair of metal bars installed in the Arsenale in Venice in the 19th century to illustrate the difference between the meter and the passo veneto at a time when the meter was replacing regional measurement systems throughout Europe. The drawings are made with a variety of materials, some standard -- colored pencil, charcoal, ink, carbon black -- and others more specific to Venice -- squid ink, wine, salt, coffee, lemon juice.
The drawings were made in 2018 during a residency at the Emily Harvey Foundation in Venice.
